A couple years ago, I weighed 350 pounds. I was a big and very heavy guy. I had sleep apnea and had to sleep using a machine. The clothes I wore were baggy, and admittedly I was not happy with who I was. I seen a picture of myself that really put into perspective as to how big i really was. At that point in my life, i spent a great deal of time sitting at home, playing video games on the Playstation, but not really accomplishing anything. I would get my homework done, and my studies of course, but my health was deteriorating and I knew i needed to make a change.

When I was 350 Pounds

When I was 350 Pounds

I never had the proper motivation to start a diet or going to the gym. What did I do? I started photography. This was my way to get out into the world, and in the same time, exercise doing what I love. I’d say that this passion has helped drive my weight loss and being smart in the same time helped. Cutting out junk food, fast food and candy (I love candy) made a huge improvement in my life as well. Within the first year my Sleep Apnea was gone, I didn’t need a machine to breathe anymore when I slept, I had lost 60 pounds. I thought that this was a great accomplishment and I was happy where I was at.

During the end of the year, things took an unexpected turn. A fight, seizure, and a new diagnosis of being Bi-Polar and OCD. Certainly this was a challenge that I had to face head on. An impossible journey trying to figure out why the world doesn’t make sense and trying to understand the world around you in a new way. I do not let labels stop me though. I kept pushing on, and even with trial and error medicine, I kept doing what I loved and avoided staying in the house and letting whatever goes on in my head conquer me. I needed something to keep me going, and I wasn’t sure what it would be.

But then I found another passion in playing Airsoft, which got me running around and having a great time, while in the process I was doing I liked and what made me happy. After a few months of playing Airsoft, and hiking to take picture for my photography I never realized how easy it was to lose weight doing what you love to do.

There is really no need for a fancy gym membership, being smart and staying active in some way guarantees results. Sitting at home doing nothing will help. Today I weigh 200 pounds. A major accomplishment that didn’t require a special diet, or working out for insane amounts of time in a gym. I did what I loved, enjoyed in moderation the food I loved, and made sure that whatever I was doing would make me happy.

I was not alone on this journey. Family and Friends helped me throughout the whole way. This is something that you cannot do alone! This is only one small step, but a step that was necessary and needed. I had the right motivation and that is something that is needed when trying to lose weight. Without wanting something for yourself, you can accomplish nothing. Having to support to help you will make the bad days less bad, the good days amazing and lead to many many great days. This is only a small writing, just before bed, this is a proud accomplishment that I want to share. There are many more, but that is for another day
